Mobile Handset Sales Rise to 1.1 Billion in 2007

Mobile device sales continued unabated in 2007 with Nokia reaching a 40% market share.
Sony Ericsson's increased sales to over 100 million handsets was also notable.  iSuppli Marketing Intelligence above reveals the intensive worldwide growth in mobile devices.

Motorola continued its downhill slide to 159 million handsets, down nearly 38% from Q4 2006 to the same period in 2007. Samsung, LG and "others" accounted for the remaining total.

The 1.1 billion total should humble Apple with its iPhone. Even if Apple ships 10 million iPhones in 2008 to the U.S. and overseas, it's puny by comparison to a world increasingly dominated by much larger players.
